Transforming Lives. Restoring Hope. Building Bridges from the Streets to Stability

Grow Your Vision

West Sugar Creek Ministries was born out of struggle, faith, and transformation.
Our founder, Brook Goode, spent nearly two decades battling addiction, homelessness, and incarceration — before being delivered and called to create a ministry that would fight for the humanity of the homeless and the forgotten.
What started as one man’s second chance has become a movement of compassion, recovery, and purpose.
Together with a dedicated team, including Brendan Green (Treasurer), Brittany B. (Secretary), and Chaplain Marcus Early, we are building programs that restore lives through housing, workforce training, and community outreach.
Our message is simple:
You don’t have to be perfect to be worthy.
Every soul has value, and every bridge we build is proof that redemption is real.

WHAT
      WE
           DO!

1
Blankets & Blessings is our street outreach initiative, meeting people where they are — under bridges, in encampments, and on the corners of our city. We provide warm meals, blankets, and essential supplies to those living on the streets. More than just giving things away, we offer love, prayer, and conversation — reminding every person that they are not forgotten.

At West Sugar Creek Ministries, we believe the best way to break the cycle of homelessness and addiction is through opportunity. Our Workforce Development Program equips men and women in recovery with the skills and confidence to rebuild their lives and careers.

Led by two of our board members — Brendan Green and Brittany B. — the program combines real-world experience with hands-on training.

Brendan Green, with over 35 years in the culinary industry, leads our Culinary Training Program, teaching food preparation, safety, and teamwork while preparing students for employment in professional kitchens.

Brittany B, with 15 years in non-medical home healthcare, directs our Home Health Care Training Program, training participants in compassionate care, patient safety, and essential home assistance skills.

We’ve already partnered with three local businesses that recognize our certification programs and hire our graduates — ensuring that participants don’t just learn, they work.

Our Workforce Development Program isn’t just about job training — it’s about transformation, dignity, and creating bridges from recovery to stability.

At West Sugar Creek Ministries, our Homes of Hope Program helps individuals and families in recovery move from homelessness into stability. We collect donated furniture, appliances, and household goods to turn empty spaces into real homes filled with comfort and dignity.

But Homes of Hope is more than just furniture — it’s a system built on community and purpose. Through our Junk Removal Service, we pick up unwanted items from homes and businesses, recycling what can be reused and responsibly disposing of the rest. The proceeds from those jobs go directly toward furnishing apartments for people transitioning out of homelessness.

Even more powerful, we hire individuals who are currently in our recovery and housing programs to do the junk removal work — giving them a source of income that helps cover their down payments, moving costs, and first month’s rent.

Every piece of furniture, every dollar earned, and every hour worked helps someone take one more step toward stability, independence, and pride in their new beginning.

SUGAR CREEK TREATS PROGRAM

Our Sugar Creek Treats Program is a small business with a big purpose. What started as a simple vending cart has become a symbol of independence, recovery, and community impact. Every snack and drink sold through Sugar Creek Treats helps fund our outreach, housing, and workforce development programs.

Each cart is operated by men and women in recovery who are working toward stability and self-sufficiency. They gain customer service experience, accountability, and a renewed sense of pride as they earn income and represent the mission of West Sugar Creek Ministries out in the community.

The cart itself—designed in our Charlotte Hornets colors of teal and purple—reminds everyone that transformation can be bright, bold, and full of hope.

Every dollar earned and every snack shared helps build bridges from the streets to stability, proving that even something as small as a snack can help someone take a major step forward.

MEET THE TEAM

Brook L. Goode
Founder &President

Brook Goode founded West Sugar Creek Ministries after first experiencing homelessness on West Sugar Creek Road in Charlotte, NC — a street often linked with struggle and addiction. Determined to change that narrative, he turned his pain into purpose by creating a ministry that restores dignity and opportunity to the homeless and those in recovery. Under his leadership, West Sugar Creek Ministries is transforming what that name represents — from a symbol of hardship to one of hope and impact, standing proudly alongside organizations like Salvation Army and Goodwill as a force for transformation and community renewal.

Brendan Green
Treasurer & Director of hospitality
essentials program

Brendan Green brings over 35 years of professional cooking experience to West Sugar Creek Ministries. At just 18, he experienced homelessness brought on by substance abuse — but when his child was born, Brendan made the decision to quit cold turkey and never looked back. Over the decades, he’s worked in countless restaurants, including as a chef in Los Angeles, mastering both the art of cooking and the discipline it takes to succeed. Through his leadership of the Culinary Training Program, Brendan helps people in recovery develop real skills that lead to lasting careers. Understanding that the kitchen is often the first stop for those rebuilding their lives, he designed a program that doesn’t just train — it elevates — giving individuals the tools to rise above entry-level positions and build sustainable futures in the culinary field.

Rev. Marcus Early
Chaplain & spiritual advisor

After the murder of his brother, Reverend Marcus Early spiraled into a life of violence, addiction, and self-destruction. By his early twenties, he found himself in the Allegheny County Jail facing a double murder charge — a moment that would change his life forever. It was there, during a church service on the eighth floor, that Marcus experienced the Holy Spirit for the first time. Against overwhelming odds, he was acquitted and set free — not just physically, but spiritually. Since that day, Marcus has devoted his life to God’s Word and to helping others find the same freedom he did. As a minister and spiritual advisor, he now leads programs for troubled youth and adults, using scripture, mentorship, and real-life wisdom to guide them from chaos to calling. His journey stands as living proof that no one is too lost to be found.

West Sugar Creek Ministries is led by a team of individuals who have lived the very struggles they now work to end. Each member of our leadership team brings personal experience, professional skill, and an unshakable faith in transformation. From the streets to stability, from addiction to purpose, our team embodies what it means to rebuild lives — not through talk, but through testimony. Together, we are building bridges of hope, compassion, and opportunity for the people and communities we serve.

Brittany B.
Secretary & home health

care director

With over 15 years of experience in the home health care field, Brittany has dedicated her life to caring for others — both personally and professionally. After overcoming her own battle with addiction, Brittany made the decision to turn her pain into purpose when she welcomed her youngest son into the world. Through her journey of recovery, she gained a new understanding of how home health care agencies operate and where change is needed. Now self-employed and still working with several agencies, Brittany has created a system that helps others — especially women in recovery — move from being agency employees to becoming agency owners. Her program empowers individuals to build stability, earn a real income, and reclaim independence through compassion, service, and entrepreneurship.
